What is it? This Workshop for Early Career Researchers in Australian Studies is the second edition of a workshop organised by CAAPSt aimed at gathering early career researchers for an interdisciplinary exchange of skills and research in the broad field of Australian Studies.
Where is it? The workshop will be taking place online via Zoom to allow for international participation without great expense.
When is it? The workshop will take place on 13th March 2026.
How can I participate? The Call for Papers is open until 8th December 2025. Visitors welcome! There will be no attendance fee.

2nd International Emerging Research in Australian Studies Workshop

We are pleased to announce the Second International Emerging Research in Australian Studies Workshop, a one-day online event that will take place on 13 March 2026.
We invite proposals by early career researchers and emerging scholars (i.e., doctoral students and postdocs less than five years after completion of their PhD) working in and around Australian Studies. The workshop, which is hosted by the Centre for Australian, Aotearoa and Pacific Studies (University of Cologne), functions as intersessional event before the biennial German Association for Australian Studies Conference in 2027.
Our goal is to bring together the next generation of Australian Studies scholars from around the world. The workshop provides a forum for sharing work in progress and receiving constructive feedback. It is designed to foster new ideas, endorse innovative research, and offer networking opportunities.
Focussing on “Entangled Perspectives”, the workshop aims at exploring the connections and intersections that shape the study of Australia across disciplines. We welcome contributions from various fields including, but not limited to, linguistics, literary studies, cultural studies, history, environmental humanities, and Indigenous studies. Possible topics might include:
• Entanglements of language, literature, environment, culture
• Relationships, (dis)connections, dependencies of/between the human and more-than-human world
• Indigenous Australian ontologies, epistemologies, temporalities
• Settler, migrant, refugee perspectives on/from Australia
• Plural, competing, contested narratives of Australia
• Changes, shifts, complexities in Australia
• Journeys, encounters, convergences in/beyond Australia
• International relations and entanglements (economic, linguistic, cultural etc.)
• Critical discussion of interdisciplinary approaches/methodologies
We aim to create a workshop that is accessible for participants across different time zones, including those based in Australia. The programme will therefore be scheduled in a way that allows for international participation. Visitors are also welcome to join the workshop, even if they do not present a paper. There will be no attendance fee.
